Step-by-Step Payment Guide
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to pay the exam fee online and how to secure your appointment at the DGT office in Madrid.

To take the driving theory test, you need to pay for Tasa 2.1, which currently costs €94.05. This fee gives you the right to take the exam and includes up to two attempts (if you fail the theory, you have a second chance without paying again).
To pay online, you will need a digital identification method:
- Digital Certificate (Certificado Digital)
- DNI electrónico
- Cl@ve PIN or Cl@ve Permanente
Access the DGT Portal
Go to the official Sede Electrónica de la DGT and look for the section labeled "Pago de tasas" or "Comprar Tasas".
Log In
Choose your digital identification method (Digital Certificate, DNIe, or Cl@ve credentials) to log in securely.
Select the Fee
Navigate to Grupo 2 (Trámites de conductores) and select Tasa 2.1 (Expedición de permisos de conducción). Add it to your cart.
Complete the Payment
Proceed to checkout. You will need to enter your contact email and choose your payment method (credit/debit card or direct debit from a bank account).
Download the Receipt
Once the payment is confirmed, download and save the receipt. This receipt will contain a 12-digit rate number (número de tasa), which you will need when you submit your application.
Get an Appointment (Cita Previa)
Important: The appointment you book online is not the actual date of your exam. When you submit your documents (including NIE/NIF, Tasa Payment, etc.) after verification, they will provide you the exact exam date and center.
There are three ways to get an appointment:
- 1. Physical Submission at DGT Office: The appointment is simply to go to the DGT office to submit your paperwork. The officials there will then assign you your actual exam date and time (This process is simple but it takes a lot of time to go physically to the DGT office).
- 2. Appointment Booking Page (Cita Previa): On the DGT website, go to the "Cita Previa" section and select "Solicitud de Cita Previa". This is the most hectic online procedure, and nearly impossible to get the appointment online due to heavy traffic on the website.
